What recruiters should do with their videos

You'd have seen that 81% of businesses use video as a marketing tool — up from 63% over the last year (according to HubSpot) and mobile video consumption rises by 100% every year (according to Insivia). There are squillions of articles about video. Thing is, recruiters are catching on... and it could go one way or another.

Here are some hints and tips that... if you want to do video on your phone... will help you get up and running.

What recruiters should do with their videos

  1. Lighting

  2. Sound

  3. Angle

  4. Subtitle

  5. Content

Lighting

Light is your friend. Darkness is weird and creepy (unless that's the vibe you're going for...)

Get a light and stick it on your phone. Or, use a lighting rig. Here are 3x options:

Sound

Too many sound like they're recorded on the toilet. And let's face it - you probably watch most of your videos on the toilet.

But, people need to hear you, and not the echo. Or the background noise.

Angle

  • Slightly above your head (hides the chins)

  • No duck pouts.

  • Close enough to see your head and shoulders... probably down to your sternum.

  • Your head should be in the top half of the video

  • Doesn't matter if it's portrait or landscape TBH... all social network sites will play the video at every angle you record in.

Subtitle

Something that you HAVE to do. Are you that person that listens to every video on loud in the office? SHAME ON YOU. Most people have their sound on silent... so just do it.

  • BIGVU - puts the words on the screen (TELEPROMPTER), and then turns them into subtitles. It even does background music.

  • Zubtitle - you can style your text to make it suit your brand

  • Rev - send your video to them, and they'll send back the subtitles which you can whack on using Kapwing.

Content

Whether you're promoting your jobs or candidates - it HAS to be interesting.

  • Be happy and energetic! Don't be glum....

  • Keep it around 30 seconds ideally

  • Always, always - have a CTA. Let someone know what the next steps are.

Or... you can do professional videos. It's always an option.
